We thought it would be great to send messages or letters to John Lloyd and Bea to show your support and/or simply just send them your wishes this 2008. Here are the details on how to send messages and the rules.

Lots of Bea-John Lloyd projects to look forward to -- TV Commercial, upcoming movie which will begin shooting this August 3, shows abroad such as those in Taiwan (JLC only), Qatar (Bea &amp;amp; JLC) & Las Vegas (Bea for Wowowee on Sept. 8, hopefully JLC will be able to join). John Lloyd and Bea were recently in the U.S. for a series of shows in Stockton and Anaheim California last July 7 & 8. They were joined with star magic loveteams, Rayver Cruz & Shaina Magdayao, Kim Chiu & Gerald Anderson. Overall, the show was a success. Below is a review of the Stockton show.

This is the crowd in line to get autograph at the end of the show [in the original post, a picture of a large crowd was shown]. Several of the lunch attendees were disappointed that the six stars were seated at the far west end of the room. Maria and I were sitting on the central east side of the lunch room next to Sharay fans club and ABS CBN table. It would have been more appropriate if the stars sat in the so-called presidential table. With the way it was set-up, the attendees who were sitting on the east side of the room hardly had a glimpse of the stars of the show. A few of the unhappy attendees expressed their disappointment with the producer. A couple of them said they will communicate their disappointment with ABS CBN regarding the event.

Anyway, on the positive side, the organized fans club (Sharays and BAO Kimeralds) we met were soooooo friendly. They came from Canada, all over US and Guam. We chatted with them and promised to exchange pictures. Sabi nga nila, they lurk daw sa thread ng LaBers lagi.

It was also so delightful to meet so many admirers of John Lloyd and Bea. Most of the attendees on our side of the lunch room were there because of JLC and Bea.

Because Maria and I mingled in the lobby, at lunch, and at the theater, it was so heart rending to get first-hand account from so many JLC and Bea supporters. The consistency of why and how they started admiring the 2 is remarkable. It is the chemistry of the two and their impressive body of work.

We want to especially mention this couple (a nurse and an electrical engineer) who came to the show because of JLC and Bea. They have read extensively read about JLC/Bea on the web. The knew so much details about them. The show was kilig to the max! More kuwentos to come...

Yuri and Katrina, the accidental couple in Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay. The unexpected. We've fallen in love with their witty antics, their continous psy wars and word sparring. We've watched their never-ending habulan blues. We've found that gooey soft spot in our hearts watching them fall in love, we watch them in their innocent *cough*chaste*cough* rendezvous such as looking at stars in the beach or dancing in matching tsinelas.

We've also despised them at times, from Kat's 'I love my ate' speeches to Yuri's arrogant tactics. We've drowned ourselves as we watch them in their own share of harsh melodrama, the violent storms and all that waterworks. Love them or hate them, that is Yuri and Kat, for you. Yes, we've postponed dates and gimmicks for them. We've smothered our faces with dozens of pillows in each scene. We've screamed our tonsils out with each of their magnetic stares. We've gone on to passionate arguments outside the KTKH world to defend our beloved people.

KTKH has become holy hour (don't call me, don't talk to me -I don't wanna eat-, don't touch me hour...) partly because of them. Of course, that's the excuse of every Yuri and Kat junkie. And every Yuri-Kat junkie knows the ultimate trademark of this teleserye couple. The almost kisses. It always starts with a little word sparring, a little habulan, look at each deeply in the eyes, inching closer to each other, they hold their breaths...we hold our breaths...anticipating... To kiss or not to kiss?

It's always the latter. Yet, here we are still crossing our fingers for the liplock. It's been long overdue. It makes sense,right? We are always taken aback with the romantic almost-kisses, usually in slow-mo in the setting of a beach, or in the middle of a dance, or the banyo. the music, the tender look on their faces...everything always seemed perfect...well until we go to the part where they don't actually kiss. Damn tease.

Well, June 20th, 2003 changed our KTKH viewing experience... It was amid all the chaos. Our favorite villain Monster Morg has come off with a brilliant plan that would put the CIA to shame. We've discovered new secrets, a puzzle to piece together. Lorrinda is alive, still cold-hearted and filled with strength---however, with the amnesia. How original. The most common problem in soap world. They always have to forget,huh?

While, our protagonist Lorrea is stuck in a hospital bed, unconcious and wrapped up all over. Without her soft smile to brighten up our days. Yuri visits her with a bunch of red roses. Shares his frustrations on the possibility of losing Katrina-- after torturing her for the past few days...duh? Then, moments later Katrina visits Lorrea with a bunch of white roses. She notices the red roses, already in the vase. She rolls her eyes at the notion that Yuri was there. Calls him 'mokong' and then she contemplates if she should throw his roses. Instead of doing that, she inhales the scent of his roses, with her eyes closed, as if in a deep trance. It was as if smelling those roses was holding on to him. She snaps herself out of her trance and decided to talk to Lorrea. She voiced out her woes. She should get over him. She should. She should. She tried to convince herself...hard. Unknown to her he was listening all this time. When she discovers this, she walks out of the room...Yuri ran after her.

Oh, another dose of the never-ending habulan blues? She was yelling at him, her voice echoing all over the place. Why the hell was he laughing? Then it took one embrace and you hear her cut her breath. She envelops herself into his arms. She was caught by the moment, she gives in...she loves this man. The next few sceneswere all a blur to me, he apologizes, he plays with the stone (or their 'wedding ring' which by the way looks different) and shows it to her.

She was touched. He kneels down and hits himself with the humiliation of confessing his love to Katrina. People passing with chuckles and raised eyebrows. All I could think about in that scene was how beautiful and refreshing they both were. Bea in her white blouse and light make-up. And JLC with his usual shade of blue, with his ridiculously expensive polo shirts. They looked into each other's eyes and I held my breath...

But Kat, acted as if she didn't care. She moves from one place to the other. Yuri was confused as I was. Another dose of the habulan blues, more barahan? intense debate over why she should forgive him? Instead, she calls him "TANGA!" Yuri with a crushed expression looked even more confused. Then she said "Oo! Oo na!" Yuri's face was filled with genuine joy, it was as if he was a kid sitting in an ice cream store. Well...who wouldn't be? Kat's smile was just alluring. Then he walks closer to her, then...BAM...their lips finally touch. His smile was still there as he kissed her, he was too overjoyed. She responds to the kiss, as her lips curve a bit. The end. roll credits.

Some may say the kiss wasn't sweet at all. They were in the middle of the hospital (not to mention in a middle of a crisis). They were on a staircase, for everyone to see. What if an emergency patient suuddenly gets carried out in the middle of their kiss? What if they bump into a rushing doctor?

Why was their kiss so fast? No romanticized diffused focuses or deep stares or anticpation (inching closer and closer)?

Because in its own right it's still as romantic and sweet. And I dare say even more. The kiss was awkward, a bit unsure, so sudden not enough to dissect some explosive emotions. Yet, that makes it so raw and realistic. Not all first kisses are like in Tinsle Town where there's stirring music, a sunset, the wind blowing, the setting so perfect (or adventurous like some fire in a building). It wasn't earth shattering or swooningly romantic... but its sense of realism is enough to get me. The tension, the awkwardness, the hidden smiles were enough to get me giddy. It hit close to home for me. And I know it will be preserved, that feeling, the breathless second...the pinch in your gut..."Ah! they finally kissed."

It was all worth the wait after all.

All About Love Review

Yes, indeed, it was all about love. The movie was limited by the trilogy format resulting to inadequate exposition scenes. For example, I only realized that Bei's character, Lia (I love this name) works for a magazine/publishing company on my second viewing of the movie. And of course, Lloydy's character, Eric (I love this name before and I love it more now), had an ex named Anna. No parallels whatsoever in real life. It was not mentioned what she died of. Or, I just didn't care? Anyhow, these things would have been tackled in a full-length movie. Be that as it may, it was beautiful.

It was beautiful because it was painful. At least, Bea and Lloydy's portion. It is a recognition of their status as stars, make that superstars, that it was their story that connected all the three stories together. Tama si Direk Binibining Joyce Bernal, sila naman talaga ang sikat dun. Their story is about loss. And finding yourself again. Sabi nga ni Eric, "Importante lang, pinipilit mong gumising sa umaga." Or, something like that. Sorry, dalawang beses ko pa lang napanood. (Baka si Pat, memorize niya na. Pat, magpost ka nga dito.)

Can pain be beautiful? Yes, in this case. In Lloydy and Bea's case, it's always yes. Their beautiful scenes are always the ones where tears are involved. Just review Yuri and Kat's break-ups, Lawrence and Cielo's break-ups, Oliver and Jasmin's break-up (they broke up only once if I remember right), Oliver and Jasmin's airport scene (breathtaking!), Manuel and Marian's bittersweet talk about their dying friendship (masakit), Manuel and Marian's confrontation in Manuel's car (that left me speechless) and here in AAL, Eric and Lia's confrontation in Lia's apartment. Here, John Lloyd has the better lines and I mean, very good lines. Bea held her own but it was Lloydy's moment. Please watch out for this scene. The lines he said were beautiful and I could only hope that he believes them in real life. Kung ma memorize ko na word for word, ipopost ko dito. Hehe.

And of course, the KISS! Panoorin niyo na lang.

I think Bei and Lloydy can now start doing full-length dramatic vehicles like the ones Richard Gomez and Dawn Zulueta used to do before. Foremost is Hihintayin Kita sa Langit. My bestfriend used to be crazy about them and all the while we thought they will end up together. Well, now, they're happy living separate lives. Before you bop me, nobody's married yet so tuloy tuloy lang! No doubt that John Lloyd and Bea will do well in drama because they act so brilliantly. I think they can also pull off passionate scenes with minimal effort (I refer you again to the kiss) and it won't look faked either like the one in Don't Give Up On Us. It's time for a full length drama for John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo! Something award winning, something socially relevant, something that can be brought to a special screening at Cannes Film Festival. Please please please.

And one last thing, Bea, as always, is beautiful. But she was more beautiful in Close to You. But! She is exuding sex appeal in this movie! She kissed first! But Lloydy, Lloydy is just so delicious. He was just the most gorgeous guy in the whole universe in this movie. I wanted to scratch him out of the screen and take him home. So sexy! Hint of a goatee, five o'clock shadow, naughty smile, searing eyes. Bad boy! Higit pa kay Robin Padilla! So Yummy! (pahiram icy ha.)

Of course, there were bloopers. The first i noticed was the ticket Angelika's character was holding. Nakalagay, From: Manila To: Canada . Shine, pwede ba yun? Di ba dapat city kung saan lalanding ang eroplano mo? And they can't seem to decide what to do with Bea's hair but whatever, still BEAutiful!

And where else in the world can you find a kutsera wearing wearing nice make up and expensive tennis shoes?

But the blooperest of them all, sinabi lang na may nangyari kagabi. Basta sa next movie, hindi lang sasabihin yung "nangyari kagabi", gagawin na!

An aside...I didn't have a very good week but as always, I am thankful that there are things that are certain to make me happy, this thread for example and the people in it.

Close To You Review II

No, this is not the movie that will change the course of Philippine history. No, it is not socially relevant but I am sure that in the future, perhaps, near future, John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo will act in a film that will move the world. This is not like Sister Stella L, Himala, Batch 81, Dekada 70 or Bagong Buwan. This is not that kind of film. But just wait a while...just wait a while. Bea Alonzo and John Lloyd Cruz will do those kind of movies soon (and I don't mean a half-baked, barely researched biopic of a still living, breathing fighter who hasn't even lived half his life - sorry, sorry, can't help myself.) The time will come that John Lloyd Cruz AND Bea Alonzo will be in a film that will win awards and will make a headlines in film festivals abroad. I just can see it happening.

This is just a feel good film, make that a feel great film, like An Affair to Remember, Casablanca , Roman Holiday, Titanic. Is it sacrilegious to compare this one to those mentioned? I think not. They are all about a man and a woman falling in love. And, man and woman crying buckets of tears over this love. Sounds like real life? So, let me rephrase, this is not just a feel great film. This is a film that spliced that part of life that makes the world go round. It doesn't make promises to heal the world's ills, it doesn't make a statement to change government policies. It just is. Real. Matter-of-fact. True.

John Lloyd Cruz plays Manuel (the end credits say Nuel), bestfriend to Marian, a talented photographer who belongs to a family of artists who hasn't quite have gotten the courage to put himself out there and be judged...whether in his work or in his love for Marian. He's just there...contented to be co-owner of a photography studio, driving a Pajero, being with Marian. He hasn't heard what Kierkegaard said, "To risk is to lose one's foothold for a while. Not to risk is to lose oneself forever." This is his basic character flaw. It is a credit to the screenwriter Mel del Rosario that she made Manuel so consistent. So consistent that you want to bop his head each time he doesn't grab a great opportunity.

Bea Alonzo plays Marian, bestfriend to Manuel, an entrepreneur who has her own flower business. She is a go-getter, quite strict and determined. She knows what she wants and she goes and gets it. She never forgets. She often would remind Manuel how she saved him from being drowned and how he is missing all these opportunities. She also remembered a childhood promise. She's also a nag.

You see Lloydy and Bea on screen and you expect chemistry.

You see Bea and Lloydy on screen and you expect good acting.

And, in this movie, they didn't fail. It takes effort to make everything look effortless. Unless, of course, there's really no acting involved here (No, no, just kidding.) The first time they appeared on screen as Manuel and Marian felt as if they have been there forever. It didn't feel like its the first time. It's as if they have lives before this and they only allowed a camera to follow them at this certain period. They appeared for the first time yet it felt there's already a history.

Can there be more expressive eyes than John Lloyd Cruz's? He doesn't have to say a word. His eyes say it all. How can he have all those feelings in his eyes in a space of a second? Magaling si John Lloyd Cruz. Ang galing ni John Lloyd Cruz. And it's not only his eyes. It seems all his facial muscles act too. In the scene where Lance kissed Marian, his eyes were closed, but why do you feel him so hurt? There's a shade of Oliver in this character but just a shade.

The shots were of course beautiful but all its beauty pale in comparison with Bea Alonzo's. She glows on screen. So beautiful in EVERY shot. If you are her father, your heart will be filled with pride and with fear. How could you keep men away from this creature? If you are her mother, you would want to plan her wedding.

If you are John Lloyd Cruz, well...you will also have difficulty keeping your hands to yourself too. The girl in Bea Alonzo is surely leaving and being replaced by a totally desirable woman. And she can act. Marian is so different from all the other characters she played.

I love three scenes in the movie more than the others. The first was when they were "breaking up" as friends. Manuel told Marian, Kung ako ba magkaka girlfriend, hindi ka ba magseselos? And Marian answered, Hindi ka pa nagkakaka girlfriend, dudukutin ko na ang mga mata nila. I just love the way she said this. That conversation felt like a conversation between two old friends just like they were in the movie. Honest. Just the barest facts. Straight to the point. And Manuel hugged her. You will love this Tita Elise. No kiss, just a hug.

The second is the confrontation scene. They were in a car. Small confined space and they were strapped to their seats but why is this scene so touching? I won't elaborate further but suffice it to say, this scene will stay with you. Good. Good. Good.

And the ending, as Ron said, what could be cuter than the ending? I love the fact that there was just that one kiss in the end. Just one very nice, very nice kiss. I think first kisses should be that way, playful, hesitant yet deliberate, just a dash of passion yet so loving. So cute and so right. It's not an "I-finally-found-you" kiss, it's more like "we've-been-married-40-years-and-my-heart-still-palpitates-each-time-I-see-you"

Direk Cathy Garcia-Molina did a fine job and Mel del Rosario wrote a fine script. Congratulations to all cast and crew.

The movie is beautiful. It redefined the word "bestfriend". If I have known that bestfriend has this new definition, I could have saved myself a lot of not-so-good feeling last time.

Seriously now, I think I have to see the movie again because my first showing was dominated by one windang after the other. But a few impressions did stuck in my mind.

John Lloyd Cruz is an awfully good actor. He doesn't have to say anything. His eyes are doing all the talking. So good!

Beautiful Bea. I suppose Direk Cathy didn't get that wish na minsan naman magpapangit si Bea. Just so beautiful in every shot. So beautiful and yet so real.

When they're onscreen together, I feel like they're my next door neighbors and one of them is telling me how their relationship is going. I don't feel like watching a movie. I feel as if I'm eavesdropping on a conversation. So natural. I guess it is a credit to the director and the screenwriter that they were able to achieve this kind of feel in the movie. John Lloyd and Bea looks as if they have been doing this for millions of years.

Watching the movie is like reading one of Jane's offcam kwento. Totoong-totoo. It's not easy achieving this feat. They don't look like they're acting. They just are. Having said that, the movie only needed one kiss and I'm glad that Direk Cathy didn't give in to the temptation of giving the audience more than what is needed. (Oh, but that was a very loaded kiss...sweet, funny, cute, affectionate, loving, passionate, deliberate. How could Lloydy and Bea make that one kiss all these is a mystery. But, it's there for us to savor. Yes, Icy, it was yummy.)

They are bestfriends and bestfriends do not kiss on the lips, or hug more than needed or kiss on the temple or declare love on national television...but I'm getting my definition from an old dictionary. Bestfriend na kung bestfriend. Whatever, Bea, whatever.

They are so good. They are so good together.

I llllllllllllllooooooooooooooooovvvvvvvvve it!

And, why is this ring everywhere even if she's Marian? Does she even take it off? Just curious.

Mawala lang siya sa paningin mo, hinahanap na ng mata mo. Nakaka-adik pala siya. Pero isang magandang addiction. Sus, ilang gigabytes ng memory na ba ng cellphone, digicam at videocam ang kuha mo sa kanya? Maraming-marami na. Hindi mo pa binilang yung nasa wallet mo at ang photo albums mo sa bahay. Kung lahat nga lang ng magagandang memories kinunan mo ng videocam, baka naubos na ang lahat ng memory card sa mundo. Napakaganda niya. Parang may umiilaw mula sa kalamnan. Ang mga mapupungay niyang mata. Kung nakatingin ka dun, nakikita mo sarili mo...kung ano ka talaga. At kahit maraming mali sa yo, you still feel worthy.

Mabuti na rin yun, iwas chismis. Kya nagulat ka nung sa pangalawang pelikulang ginawa niyo, nagsimula na kayong mag-usap, ang gulo niya. Napakasaya niyang kasama. Hindi mo maipaliwanag ang tuwa mo kung kasama mo siya. Masarap. Napakasarap.

It did not start out to be that way. In 2002, John Lloyd Cruz was a young man at 19, already 5 years in the entertainment industry waiting for his big break. Just a year earlier, he was awarded Best Actor in a Drama Series by the Star Awards for Television for his portrayal as Rovic in Tabing Ilog, a long-running afternoon soap opera. Despite the recognition and the soap having its gaggle of loyal fans, he only said a few lines in the first movie he did as a grown up headlining Jericho Rosales and Kristine Hermosa. He played a wide-eyed suitor to Kristine who was wildly in love with Jericho .

If years earlier, John Lloyd did not ask to be paired with Kaye Abad, with whom he had a very big crush on and who eventually became his girlfriend, and instead gave in to management decision of pairing her with Kristine Hermosa, would he have been in Jericho’s place now? Hoards of product endorsements, a very successful soap opera that changed night time television and a series of hit movies. Jericho and Kristine, at that time, were the biggest stars at the ABS-CBN firmament. But, looking back now, nothing happens by accident.

John Lloyd began his stint in primetime in forgettable roles, one of which as a younger brother to Judy Ann Santos. His character was promptly killed off. He was eyed to play the son of Ms. Lorna Tolentino in her first ever teleserye, Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay. Yuri Orbida came into being…a poor boy living with his father, going to college on a scholarship, in love with a rich kid named Helaena whom he takes out on dates at fishball stands. Helaena, by the way, has a geeky, braces-wearing sister named Katrina and a younger brother named Nikos. Perhaps, at that time, it was just another role to play for John Lloyd. Or, perhaps, was this the big break he had been waiting for? If only he had a looking glass at that time and could see the future, he would have known that the 15-year-old he had a few scenes with would change his life and his future. Inevitably. Forever.

That 15-year-old was Bea Alonzo. In her former life, she was Phylbert Angellie Ranollo, daughter to Mary Ann and a British man named Philip who met in Macau, China when Mary Ann worked there as a saleslady. When Bea was 4 years old, her British father left her and her mother and was never heard from since. Mommy Mary Ann married Carlos Ranollo and they had a son whom they named James. Bea now has a family…a mother, a father and a younger brother.

Their family only had enough for what was needed. They didn’t have much for extras. At a young age, Bea had her future in sight. She would study hard and support herself through college. She had also one burning ambition.

She wanted to be an actor. So, as fate would have it, she joined a beauty contest. She didn’t win that one but she was destined for a much bigger prize. She caught the eye of a talent agent who brought her to the offices of Johnny Manahan who made sure she had the guts to be an “artista”.She was launched as part of Star Circle Batch 10. Her first TV show was K2BU. Although the show was short-lived, it would prove to be significant.

That was where she met Shaina Magdayao, two years younger than her but already a showbiz veteran. They would call each other “cousin”, their word for best friend. Like most actors at the beginning of their careers, Bea experienced rejections. But her persistence paid off. Finally, she was cast as Rica Peralejo’s geeky sister wearing a cumbersome brace in a soap opera entitled “Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay” starring Ms. Lorna Tolentino and John Lloyd Cruz. It started out to be a forgettable role. Definitely, it was not a role that would take her places. Wearing very large eyeglasses and a brace and hardly having any scenes at all were not tickets to stardom. But nothing happens by accident.

The first chapter of Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay ended. It was time to start Book II. They needed a screen partner for John Lloyd Cruz, a character that would serve as a point of contention for Yuri and now ex-girlfriend Helaena. They had actresses lined up for a go-see. They asked them to stand beside John Lloyd Cruz’s picture and looked for whatever it is that people who know look for in this instance. This was not going to be a big role. There was already Rica Peralejo playing the younger female lead. But big role or not, the actress must match John Lloyd Cruz in some way. So, Bea Alonzo, the one who played the geeky sister in Book I went to the go-see, stood beside John Lloyd’s picture and she was looked at. She was only 15. The character was a 21-year-old law student. Maybe, if she wears a little more make-up? So, she did and she went on to deliver the now unforgettable valedictory address in primetime television.

The first meeting of Katrina Argos, law student and Yuri Orbida, debonair new young lawyer, was electric. The first meeting of Bea Alonzo, 15-year-old showbiz newbie and John Lloyd Cruz, 19-year-old veteran of various soaps and movies, was not memorable. He asked her how old she was, she answered and they hardly spoke behind the camera after that. He saw her as a child and saw himself as considerably older even if the 4-year difference in their ages is infinitesimal compared to eternity. He stayed in his corner, she stayed in hers but on-screen, they have sparks fly off each other and they light up the room. The whole nation was riveted. The soap opera which was to end soon was extended to give in to the clamor for more Yuri-Katrina scenes. The role that was not a ticket to stardom started to give Bea Alonzo notice. For John Lloyd Cruz, it was as if Yuri Orbida was the first character he ever played.

The most beautiful loveteam on Philippine television was born.

The sparks on the small screen was tested if it had the same intensity on the big screen. John Lloyd and Bea starred in their first ever lead role as part of a twin-bill entitled “My First Romance.” Enzo (John Lloyd), was a soccer player who received a heart from Bianca’s (Bea) boyfriend who perished in a car accident.

These two were entirely different from the feisty Katrina and the intense Yuri. Enzo is a simple guy who fell in love with the girlfriend of the one to whom he owes his heart and his life. Bianca is a heartbroken fresh college graduate who tries to resist the affection of Enzo and is confused about whom she is in love with. Is it still Jojo, played by Dominic Ochoa, the kind-hearted doctor who is now deceased or this Enzo, the recipient of her boyfriend’s heart? In the end, it was all about Enzo and Bianca. The movie was a hit. Although another pair was in it, there was no doubt which pair made an impact in the thousands of viewers’ mind and heart.

Bea won the award, Best New Movie Actress for this movie from the Philippine Movie Press Club’s Star Awards for Movies.

The on-screen romance didn’t quite translate to real life as fans would have hoped. John Lloyd, at that time, was very much committed to a long-time girlfriend wearing their promise ring on his right hand even during promotions of the movie. To preserve the illusion of the movie, Ciara Sotto’s name was not permitted to be spoken during press conferences and TV guestings.

Although John Lloyd and Bea gave the audience the requisite hand-holding during their TV guestings and mall shows, there was no doubt that their relationship was purely professional. It was evident in their body language, in their answers to questions, in their awkwardness when they were required to do more. They didn’t profess to be close friends and were quite honest to say they don’t know each other all that well.

They don’t even oblige to the usual demand for a kiss. Still, the movie was a hit and the audience accepted the fact that while the pair sizzled playing characters in front of the camera, they don’t have much to do with each other behind the camera. Still, the audience was enchanted.

After the success of the Yuri-Katrina tandem on television and Enzo-Bianca in the movies, ABS-CBN struck while the iron was hot. Almost immediately, John Lloyd and Bea were given a soap opera of their own. “It Might Be You” aired December 8, 2003 with Jean Garcia, Gardo Versoza, John Prats, Maja Salvador, Miko Palanca and Tirso Cruz III to support them. They played star-crossed lovers, Lawrence Trinidad and Cielo San Carlos, who fought for their love until it culminated in a wedding in a beautiful church in Pampanga. It was also during this time that rumors were rife that Miko Palanca, brother to Bernard and ex-boyfriend to Joyce Jimenez, was courting Bea. The rumors turned out to be true. Bea, in an interview months later, admitted that there was a time she and Mico exchanged text messages.

The teleserye did well in the ratings, proof that John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo have a pull on viewers and that ABS-CBN did not make a mistake of giving them their own soap opera.

2004 was a pivotal year in the career and lives of John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo. They started the year busy with “It Might Be You”, starred in their first solo movie, “Now That I Have You”, ended “It Might Be You” as 2004 closed . During this time, too, John Lloyd broke up with Ciara for good, it appears and John Lloyd and Bea started talking to each other. It was during this year too that drug addiction rumors began to hound John Lloyd, rumors which he vociferously denied. There were talks of him dating Heart Evangelista which he also denied. John Lloyd and Bea were awarded the Most Popular Love Team of RP movies from the Guillermo Mendoza Foundation, an award recognizing the strength of the tandem.

“Now That I Have You” wrought many changes in John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo as co-workers and John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo as human beings. The movie was also a litmus test for their ability to draw crowds into movie theaters. “Now That I Have You” reunited them with neophyte director, Laurenti Dyogi, the man who nurtured Yuri and Katrina during the “Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay” days, the man who was responsible for choreographing Bea Alonzo’s first on-camera and real life kiss with John Lloyd Cruz. The first of the many, it turned out.

“Now That I Have You” saw John Lloyd playing Michael Morelos, a certified public accountant who was not really on the lookout for love. He was pursued doggedly by Betsy Rallos, a hopeless romantic working at a call center. In a script written by Jose Javier Reyes, John Lloyd and Bea gave life to Michael and Betsy so convincingly that the movie was not only a blockbuster hit but a critical success as well. It was awarded Best Picture Comedy by the Golden Screen Awards. They were awarded “Prince and Princess of RP Movies” by the Guillermo Mendoza Foundation for this film.

John Lloyd realized that he can be friends with Bea and Bea realized there’s another side to her brooding co-star. John Lloyd said, “She brought out the kid in me, the side of me that I’ve missed for a long time,” the first of many pronouncements that signaled their evolving relationship. At the end of “Now That I Have You”, they have each other’s cell phone number.

While the fans rejoiced in this new development, they were taken aback by the news that Bea will soon be paired with Piolo Pascual and they will be making a new movie. John Lloyd confirmed this in his interviews and though not apparent, this move by the management caused him considerable concern.

They finished “It Might Be You” and during their interview in “The Buzz” to herald the end of the teleserye, John Lloyd quite honestly admitted that he is not ready to be paired with anybody else. He expressed with a hint of sadness in his voice that there will be somebody else who will fill the spaces he will leave behind in Bea’s life. They obliged for a kiss after the interview after which John Lloyd made a surprising comment saying he had enough of kisses on the cheeks. Would he like to plant a kiss somewhere else? Was this portent of things to come? Sometime in 2004, John Lloyd Cruz ceased seeing Bea Alonzo as a child and perhaps, he saw something more.

Bea went on to make “Dreamboy” with Piolo Pascual. It was the Valentine date movie of Star Cinema. She was a girl named Cyd who fell in love with Phillip, then Eboy, then Jaime, all played by Piolo. The movie went on to make money but this was overshadowed by the fact that the movie made by the rival network made more. There were a lot of moments in the movie which were cheered on by the audience but the loudest cheers came in the end when John Lloyd made a cameo appearance. It was clear who the audience wanted as a leading man for Bea Alonzo.

In March of this year, John Lloyd and Bea did a series of shows in the United States . It was the first time that Bea set foot in the US mainland. Many saw the growing friendship between them, the subtle and not-so-subtle touches that made those who saw them think there’s more to these two than what they were saying. They proceeded to Dubai as guests of the Champions and more of the same stories kept on surfacing although not publicized. They went back to the Philippines and proceeded to work on “Ikaw ang Lahat sa Akin”, the new soap opera they will star in with Claudine Barreto, Diether Ocampo, Angelika de la Cruz and Shaina Magdayao.

“Ikaw ang Lahat sa Akin” was eagerly awaited by their legions of fans who waited for 5 months without seeing them on television together. A new John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo seemed to have been born after almost half a year of not seeing them. In their interview in “The Buzz”, the answers were guarded. When Bea was asked to define their relationship, she said, “I’m happy when I’m with him and I hope that he feels the same way.” One can sense there’s more to it than that. There was a visible sense of relief when the interview shifted from “what they have now” to the promotion of the new teleserye. In the new soap, John Lloyd played Oliver who was an extrovert given to playing pranks at the expense of Jasmin whom he adores and Bea played Jasmin who was an introvert and a fodder for Oliver’s pranks and her classmates’ bullying. The chemistry was still there and the mystery why it was there was still left unanswered.

In “Ikaw ang Lahat sa Akin”, John Lloyd and Bea was seen reacting to each other more spontaneously. It’s as if they have reached a level of comfort and knowledge of each other that watching them was like watching a well-choreographed ballet, except that one doesn’t notice the choreography, only the beauty of the dance.

It’s as if they could read each other’s mind. There too, was the spontaneity of physical affection. There were more kisses on this soap than all previous soaps and movies combined.

September of this year proved to be a thrilling month for John Lloyd. “ Dubai ,” the movie he starred in with Aga Muhlach and Claudine Baretto, opened in theaters. John Lloyd, of course, was honored to work alongside Aga Muhlach, without question the best actor of his generation.

More than that, perhaps he saw in Aga what he wanted to be in the future…a loving husband, a good father to his kids, a responsible family man blessed with a fulfilling career. Happiness embodied in one individual. Perhaps, he saw in Aga a man who has paid his dues in life and who now deserves to partake of his blessings. John Lloyd found a role model.

At the premiere night, fans were thrilled to see Bea’s name on the reserved seats behind themovie’s stars alongside Claudine’s sister and Aga’s wife. Perhaps, it was prudent of her to come in after the lights were off and not to take the seat reserved for her. But her name was there. “ Dubai ” was an astounding success.

“Ikaw ang Lahat sa Akin” ended its 6-month run in the first week of November. Credit was due to the directors, writers, staff and crew of the soap that despite having many actors, who are stars in their own right, there still was an opportunity for all of them to shine. John Lloyd and Bea played their characters so well with just the right texture, the right feel, the right nuance, that there was no doubt they are the heirs apparent.

It has to be remembered that before there was John Lloyd AND Bea, there was John Lloyd and there was Bea. Individuals. October marked the month that Bea turned 18. Instead of having a grand debutante’s ball, she celebrated with a television special that showed her enormous talent and the bigness of her heart. The dance numbers with Carlos Agassi, Rafael Rosell, Rayver Cruz, Vhong Navarro and no less than Mr. M himself showed different aspects of her, aspects of her that the fans seldom see.

She treated twenty orphans to Enchanted Kingdom and visited a rehabilitation facility in Cebu City . It took courage to do that. She partied with Bamboo, her favorite band and was immediately reported in the tabloids that she and the band’s lead singer have something going on which was, of course, a fabrication. And, there’s John Lloyd in his funny music video. It’s good that he’s an actor and not a singer. In the television special, Bea was shown being surprised by her best friend Shaina. Their friendship was touching.How many actors in showbiz today enjoy a real and pure friendship? Bea and Shaina are lucky to have each other.

Bea, from all accounts written of her and from all the impressions of people who met her, is a down-to-earth and kind-hearted girl. She is a good daughter to her parents, an authoritative sister to her brother, a sincere and trusted friend, a grateful star to her fans, a respectful and charming young woman to those she worked with, a faithful child to her God.She is extremely talented and now has the confidence to really show what she’s capable of. Rather than play the prima donna card which she has every right to, she knows when and when not to speak. She chooses to be quiet most of the time about issues that concern her but speaks up when warranted. She’s introspective and careful not to hurt another person’s feelings. There’s not a mean bone in her body. She’s sincere and honest and does not hanker after the glare of the spotlight.

Recently, John Lloyd won the award for Best Actor in a Drama Series from Enpress for his performance in “Skating Rink”, an episode in “Maalaala Mo Kaya” and Best Actor in a Drama Series from Star Awards for Television for “It Might Be You”. The boy who was born in St. John the Baptist’s Feast Day 22 years ago is slowly and surely reaping the rewards of his labor. These awards are well-deserved. And, there will be more to come.John Lloyd is a good son to his parents Cito and Aida, a good brother to his siblings, and a good friend, as he claims, to Bea Alonzo. He is a very private person. Although at ease during interviews, one can sense that he draws a line that shouldn’t be crossed and there are questions he wouldn’t answer. Except when it comes to Bea’s love life where he volunteers, almost always, false information or incoherent statements. From his partying days of old, he appears to have grown up and found his center.

He is a young man wise beyond his years, thinks too deeply and lately, seems to have found the license to relax and to just enjoy the moment. There is more to watch out for in this young man.

They claim to be good friends to each other, saying they are each other’s best friend who is only after each other’s happiness. But it seems they are who make each other happy. They give each other a certain glow that seems to radiate from within. Their body language seems to say there’s more than friendship here. The way their eyes light up when they talk to each other suggests that there’s something else. There’s an incandescence about them when they are together. They seem to be so into each other and just into each other that they inhabit a world of their own. A cocoon of happiness seem to enclose them, their joy oozing from the pores of their being that looking at them makes one happy too.

The Greeks have three words for love, Eros, Philia, Agape, connoting love’s different levels. Seen from any angle, looked at any side, what John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo have for each other is love. Whether Eros, Philia or Agape…still love. Love between two beautiful souls.

i have been downloading KTKH clips (thanks maisara!)and i watched...and watched...and watched...sus, nakikinig lang ako sa mga dialog dun eh ang korni pala. gaya nung bato!!! pero namilipit pa rin ako sa kilig at tuwa, sa kilig at tuwa....hay

i still believe that in all aspects, kay tagal kang hinintay is still the best soap that was ever put in philippine tv. seeing john lloyd and bea there as yuri and kat (my most favorite bea-jlc characters) still gives me goosebumps at parang sinusundot pa rin ang puso ko. yan yata ang magic ng "first". you don't ever forget your firsts. everything there was fresh and exciting and the tension! grabe ang tension! the story on yuri and kat happened during the first few months of their relationship and the newness of the relationship really showed in their acting. perhaps this is also influenced by the fact that in real life they were new co-workers and in real life, they were really tense with each other.

the question then was, will they ever kiss?! and i saw the first kiss again and naku, pumuwesto talaga ang tatang ha. he stepped up the stairs, both feet firmly planted, captured kat's face and....the earth stopped on its axis. Bea Alonzo had her first kiss and she didn't even know it was coming. (Sa kam____... ni john lloyd, este ni yuri akala mo ba masasatisfy yun sa halik sa cheeks? and true enough, at the end of it might be you, sumawa rin.) and for a scene that was not rehearsed, that was executed really well. john lloyd, noon pa man, may homing device yata yang bibig mo sa bibig ng bea namin eh. but seeing the old clips made me appreciate oliver and jasmin of ikaw ang lahat sa akin more. john lloyd and bea were relaxed and obviously enjoying what they were doing and because of it, the acting came off naturally. it's like seeing an old couple loving and bickering with each other.

and in a way, they were an old couple. and i hope that indeed, para happy tayong lahat dito sa bahay, they will indeed become an old couple. pagdasal natin yan. more things are wrought by prayer than this world dreams of including one 22 year old good looking guy and one 18 year old beautiful girl, both extremely talented, who obviously loves each other but it appears they're taking their own sweet time getting to the big C. C as in commitment.

You're both young anyway so, go ahead, take your time and we, who love you both with a passion, will all sit back, relax and count the "omigod!'s" that will result from this seemingly long courtship.

John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo first came to Filipino viewers' consciousness as star-crossed lovers, Yuri Orbida and Katrina Argos, in the soap opera, "Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay". Thei pairing was a risk that took root in the minds of ABS-CBN creative bigwigs, particularl director Olivia Lamasan. After seeing Bea Alonzo standing beside the picture of John Lloyd Cruz pasted on the wall, they decided that Bea will continue to play the role of grown-up Katrina Argo, a 21-year-old law student. This is a far cry from the 15-year-old that she was in real life. She pulled of the role beautifully that people were surprised to know she was only 15.

John Lloyd Cruz, at that time, also starred in a teenage drama, “Tabing Ilog” opposite Kaye Abad. His role in that afternoon soap already earned him a Best Actor trophy, the first of many that he continues to receive. He was also in a relationship with someone in real life. Despite this, television viewers started to take notice of the sizzling chemistry of this new pair. The production people behind the soap opera were obliged to extend the series for a few more months to answer the clamor for more John Lloyd and Bea scenes. When the soap ended, there was no doubt that two new stars were born --- John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo.

ABS CBN immediately tested the chemistry on the big screen. They starred them with another pair in a twin bill presentation called “My First Romance”. It was a blockbuster hit. This was followed by their own teleserye entitled, “It Might Be You,” which needless to say, did well at the ratings. With a fanbase firmly established, Star Cinema decided to give them a movie all their own. Directed by Laurenti Dyogi, their director in Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay and the screenplay written by one of the more respected filmmakers, Jose Javier Reyes, “Now That I Have You” ran for several weeks in the theaters earning millions for Star Cinema.

A hit movie and an on going teleserye should have been enough for the fans. But as fate would have it, John Lloyd and Bea began to forge a friendship. When before they practically ignored each other off-camera, they now began to enjoy each other’s company. This maybe largely due to the fact that John Lloyd was now free of any real-life commitment. The fans began to hope that what was reel may just become real.

Bea’s new movie which paired her with (the most delicious piece of human flesh in the whole universe) Piolo Pascual brought the fans back to earth. Fears of the love team breaking up circulated but was quickly dashed when John Lloyd made a cameo appearance at the end of “Dreamboy”. The fans reacted to it as if it was an oasis in the desert. Clearly, they want John Lloyd and Bea and none other.

After a long absence on television, John Lloyd and Bea were seen again as part of the teleserye, “Ikaw ang Lahat sa Akin.” Their new characters as Oliver and Jasmin were well-received by viewers. They were seen acting more spontaneously with the chemistry that first endeared them to viewers’ hearts still clearly evident. “Ikaw ang Lahat sa Akin” might be best remembered by John Lloyd and Bea lovers as having the most poignant airport scene in history. Who can ever forget that hug?

As “Ikaw ang Lahat sa Akin” was ongoing, John Lloyd made “Dubai” with Aga Muhlach and Claudine Baretto. This film marked John Lloyd Cruz as an actor that can hold his own against such heavyweights. His role in this film earned him Best Actor trophies, a well-deserved acknowledgement of his talent.After two years of waiting, word was out that John Lloyd and Bea will again star in a movie. They were joined this time by new heartthrob Sam Milby. A story of how good friends are meant to be lovers, “Close to You” was a film that fans hoped parallels what was happening in real life. Prior to the showing of the movie, John Lloyd stood by Bea when malicious rumors about her circulated and Bea showed her appreciation to him by acknowledging the importance of his friendship. “Close to You” became a very big hit.

Three months later, it was followed by “All About Love”, a trilogy of love stories participated in by two other pairs. In the movie, they were recognized as the country’s premiere love team. Rightfully so. As of this writing, “All About Love” is still showing at the theaters entering its third week. Bea’s new film with Jericho Rosales, “Pacquiao, the Movie” will open soon. John Lloyd and Bea fans need not fret however because the two have started working on their new teleserye, “Maging Sino Ka Man.”

These two have given fans so many unforgettable moments both on and off camera. Their names will forever be linked because in truth and in fact, they have made each other. There would have been no John Lloyd Cruz if there was no Bea Alonzo and no Bea Alonzo if there was no John Lloyd Cruz. John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo is one. They have kept the fans wondering about the real status of their relationship. They have declared their love for each other but as what? Are they just friends? Best friends? More than friends? This may be unclear but one thing is certain --- when John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo are on screen, there is magic.
